Words from the digger
Thanks to a recipe found in a 19th-century book, Boris Rodionov, a vodka expert, academician, and writer, has been dedicated since 2010 to reintroducing a category of vodka that had been forgotten, Polugar. A pure product of Russian culture, stemming from domestic distillation and consumed throughout the country by the common folk, this traditional vodka, produced through a simple copper pot distillation, disappeared when the Russian Empire introduced a vodka production monopoly in 1895. It is this rye spirit, also known as "bread wine," that Boris Rodionov and his son Alexey are trying to revive using production methods inherited from that era and inspired by traditional recipes.
